Nine Seminarians Scheduled for Installation Into Ministry

Four Lafayette Diocese seminarians will soon be accepted into Ministry of Lector and five seminarians will advance to Ministry of Acolyte during a special Mass of installation to be celebrated October 24, 2015 at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. The four first-year theology students to be installed as lectors are: Mathew Ardoin, Bennett Bernard, Donald Bernard and Randy Courville. The five second-year theology students to advance to Ministry of Acolyte are Blake Dubroc, Korey LaVergne, Stephen Pellessier, Andrew Schumacher, and Brent Smith.

According to Notre Dame’s website, nds.edu, “When seminarians receive these ministries, the Church recognizes the formation that has occurred in these men and their willingness to embrace ministry as another sign of their preparation for ordained ministry.”

The Most Reverend Joseph E. Strickland, Bishop of Tyler, Texas, will preside at the liturgy and install the seminarians.

With 45 seminarians the Diocese of Lafayette welcomes the highest number of men studying for the priesthood in a generation. Not since 1989 has our local church been so blessed.

Five Seminarians Accepted Into Candidacy for Holy Orders

The Office of Vocations is happy to announce that:

On June 14, 2015 at the 11 AM Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Lafayette, five Lafayette seminarians were admitted into Candidacy for Holy Orders by Bishop Michael Jarrell. In the Admission to Candidacy rite, the candidate for ordination publicly expresses his intention to receive ordination as a Deacon and subsequently as a Priest.

Matthew Hebert, sponsored by St. Mary Magdalen in Abbeville, in the fall 2015 will be in 3rd Theology at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD. Matthew is the son of Joseph and Angela Menard Hebert.

Joseph Boustany, sponsored by Our Lady of Fatima in Lafayette, will be in 1st Theology at the North American College in Rome. Joseph is the son of Deacon Edward and Tessa Sagrera Boustany.

Rene Pellessier, sponsored by St. Mary in Lafayette, will be in 3rd Theology at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD. Rene is the son of Stephen and Beth Lavergne Pellessier.

Chris Cambre, sponsored by St. Pius X in Lafayette, will be in 3rd Theology at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. Chris is the son of Rick and Sandra Allison Cambre.

Lafayette Diocese Happily Welcomes Two New Priests

Bishop Michael Jarrell ordained two new priests on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10 am at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette: Travis Wayne Abadie, son of Jules Abadie and Sharon Morris Hubacher; and Charles William Massie, IV, son of Betty Crusta Dore and Charles William Massie, III. Reverend Abadie will begin his first assignment July 1st at St. Anthony of Padua in Eunice as assistant pastor. Reverend Massie’s first assignment will be as assistant pastor at St. Michael the Archangel in Crowley, also beginning July 1, 2015.

God Bless Our Three New Deacons

On Saturday, May 23, 2015, Bishop Jarrell ordained three men to the Order of Deacon: Alex Albert, Joel Faulk, and Michael Richard. These new deacons will each serve in a Lafayette Diocese parish until this October. Rev. Mr. Albert is assigned to St. John Cathedral in Lafayette. Rev. Mr. Faulk will serve at St. Edmond parish in Lafayette. And Rev. Mr. Richard will be assigned to St. Peter Church in New Iberia. In their parishes, the transitional deacons will assist the pastor by celebrating weddings and baptisms, preaching, visiting the sick, counseling, preparing engaged couples for marriage, and burying the dead. They will continue in their parish assignments until October when they will return to Notre Dame for their fourth and final year of theology until their ordination to Holy Priesthood on June 11, 2016 at St. John Cathedral in Lafayette.

Lafayette Diocese Seminarians, Rene Pellessier and Matthew Hebert, will be admitted into the Ministry of Acolyte by the Most Reverend Ronald Gainer, Bishop of the Diocese of Harrisburg, in ceremonies at the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, on April 18, 2015. Both seminarians are in second year theology at the Mount.

Rene is the son of Stephen and Mary Elizabeth Lavergne Pellessier, and is sponsored by St. Mary, Mother of the Church Parish in Lafayette.
