Come and See at Quo Vadis Days. QVD is a time of recreation, fellowship, prayer, and discussion to help you discern Our Lord’s call in your life. There will be priests, seminarians, and other young men like yourself gathering together for these days.

Two Transitional Deacons Make Their Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity

On Sunday, January 15, 2017, two of Lafayette Diocese’s transitional deacons, Rev. Mr. Christopher Cambre and Rev. Mr. David Rozas,in preparation for their priesthood ordination, made their Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity during Vespers at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans.  According to NDS website,  “The candidates were reminded that the oath they are taking is an oath of one’s commitment to God’s Word and one’s personal word. Each seminarian signed the Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity after speaking both during solemn Evening Prayer. ”

Deacons Cambre and Rozas will join Deacons Matthew Hebert and Rene Pellessier for their Priesthood Ordination June 10, 2017 at 10 am at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette.

Rev. Mr. Christopher Cambre is sponsored by St. Pius X Church in Lafayette.  Currently in his fourth theology year at Notre Dame, he is the son of Rick and Sandra Allison Cambre.

 

REV MR DAVID ROZAS

Rev. Mr. David Rozas, the son of Kent and Margaret Vidrine Rozas, is also in his fourth year of theology at Notre Dame and is sponsored by St. Peter Church in Carencro.

Four Lafayette Diocese Seminarians Installed into Ministry of Acolyte, October 22nd

Four Lafayette Diocese seminarians advanced to Ministry of Acolyte during a special Mass of Installation celebrated Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans.  Most Reverend Robert W. Muench, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, conferred the ministry of acolyte on the following second-year theology students: Mathew Ardoin, Donald Bernard, Randy Courville and Sal Istre.

MATHEW ARDOIN

Mathew Ardoin, the son of Anne Braquet Ardoin and Daniel Ardoin, is sponsored by St. Peter Roman Catholic Church parish in Carencro.

 

DONALD BERNARD

Donald Bernard is the son of Don and Lisa Bernard and is sponsored by St. Pius X Church parish in Lafayette.

 

RANDY COURVILLE

Randy Courville, son of Yola Bergeron Courville and the late Preston Courville, is sponsored by Our Lady of Mercy parish in Henderson.

 

SAL ISTRE

Sal Istre is the son of Linnea Istre Johnson and is sponsored by Our Lady of Fatima parish in Lafayette.

According to Notre Dame’s website, nds.edu, “When seminarians receive these ministries, the Church recognizes the formation that has occurred in these men and their willingness to embrace ministry as another sign of their preparation for ordained ministry.”

THE ACOLYTE IS APPOINTED TO:

  • Aid the deacon and minister to the priest in liturgical celebrations;
  • Attend to the service of the altar and to assist the deacon and priest in the celebration of Mass;
  • Distribute Communion as an extraordinary minister in the true absence of deacons and/or priests;
  • Again in the true absence of deacons and/or priests expose the Blessed Sacrament for adoration by the faithful and afterward repose it, but without the blessing;
  • Instruct other faithful who on a temporary basis are appointed to assist the priest or deacon in liturgical celebrations by carrying the missal, cross, candles, etc., or by performing other such duties [Ministeria quaedam, n. 6].
  • The acolyte may also distribute Communion outside of Mass and participate in the Worship of the Eucharist Outside of Mass and Pastoral Care of the Sick: Rites of Anointing and Viaticum.
